The Basic Rider Course

The Basic Rider course is the best place for a new rider to start.  If you have been wondering if you would like to ride a motorcycle, if you haven't ridden in a while but ready to get back in, or if you have decided motorcycling is for you, this is your course! We teach you the basics of motorcycling beginning with motorcycle controls and work up to successful motorcycle operations including clutch, shifting, turning, and braking.   Successful completion of this course and its knowledge and skill tests, which consists of approximately five hours of classroom and 10 hours of on-cycle instruction (conducted over two sessions, Saturday and Sunday) waives the written and driving tests at the DMV. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use during the course. Also, a course completion card is provided to each student good for a motorcycle insurance discount as required by the State of Tennessee.

Cost of the Basic Ridercourse is $210.00 and includes the motorcycles, helmets, and all the materials. Successful completion of the Baisc RiderCourse waives the written and driving tests at the Tennessee DMV. For more information about class please call us at the office at 931-823-7744.

Prerequisites:

  • We recommend that you have a valid driver's license.
  • You should have a basic knowledge of the car/truck rules of the road, and an awareness of traffic regulations.
  • You should be old enough to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • You should be able to ride/balance a bicycle.

If you are under the age of 18, one of your parents or a legal guardian MUST be present with you on Saturday morning to sign the course waiver with you. If a parent or legal guardian is not with you Saturday morning, you cannot participate.

Women Only Basic Rider-Course $299.99

This is a two-day women's only class and is designed for women who have never ridden, who feel they may need a little more individual attention, and to provide a non-intimidating environment for women to learn to ride together. While course curriculum is identical to the Basic Rider Course offered co-ed, much more personal attention is devoted to beginner riders. It includes focus on the basics of motorcycle operation including: using the clutch, straight line riding, turning, shifting, stopping and safe riding strategies but in smaller class sizes allowing for individualized attention.

As in the co-ed BRC, successful completion of one of these courses waives the written and driving test portions of your motorcycle driver's license at the TN Drivers Licensing Testing Station. Motorcycle Licensure Classes

Mid Tenn Motorcycle offers several ways to get your license. Determining where you are in your riding ability and experience prior to class will determine the best course for you. Successful completion of any of the courses below will waive the written and motorcycle driving exams at the Tennessee DMV Station.

Basic Rider Course (A Two Day course available weekday and weekends from 8AM to 5PM) $210

For those of you who have never ridden, who may be wondering if you would enjoy motorcycling, or who have been out of motorcycling for a while, this class is for you.  The two day Basic Rider Course (BRC) is taken on our motorcycles and we introduce you to the basics of the motorcycle starting with motorcycle controls and working to motorcycle operation including turns, stops, obstacle avoidance, and traffic safety. While it is a basic course, many experienced riders who have taken this course and say that they learned many new things during the class. 

Successful completion of this class waives the written and driving portions of the class M motorcycle license at the DMV.

Experienced Rider Course (A one day 5 hour class usually on Saturday or Sunday) $105.00

Motorcycle safety reports indicate that 75% of motorcycle crashes involve "experienced" riders. To address the need for training of experienced riders, Mid Tenn offers the Experienced Rider Course (ERC). The ERC is designed for the experienced rider who has been riding for at least six months and wants to learn more about reducing the risk of riding and then practice what they have learned on their motorcycle. The program consists of a one day 5 hour session of training and practice on your motorcycle in a parking lot under the watchful and helpful eye of a trained instructor. If you ride with a passenger, your passenger may also enroll in the course for an additional $29.99.

Successful completion of this class waives the written and driving portions of the class M motorcycle license at the DMV.

Available for Trikes or Spyders, this course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is just what you need to get a good feel for riding your Trike or Spyder.  It's a fun way to get started or brush up on your skills. 

This course is on your Trike.  Must have proof of insurance and registration.  

This is a license waiver course.  That means once you successfully complete this course we will give you a certificate that you take to the DMV.  

You will not have to test at the DMV once you successfully complete our course.  

 

What to Wear

  • Long pants
  • Over the ankle sturdy footwear
  • Long sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • DOT approved helmet with eye protection- we can provide you with a helmet if you need one

You must have all of these in order to participate in the class.

Advanced RiderCourse

Prerequisites: A valid motorcycle permit, license, or endorsement. Riders must provide their own street-legal and safe motorcycle.

A one-day course for riders with basic skills, this class provides more in-depth riding techniques and procedures than practiced in the BRC. The course consists of activities that emphasize personal risk management and self-assessment strategies, and on-cycle exercises with emphasis in cornering, braking and swerving.
